Lyle & Scott invests in football club Lewes FC
The clothing brand Lyle & Scott has been investing in Lewes FC from East Sussex, England for quite some time now.
The main goal of this partnership is to drive the club’s growth and reach a wider community. The brand has also announced plans to bring in new players, provide fresh match and training kits, and expand the club’s facilities.
Ben Gunn, Brand Director at Lyle & Scott: "Lewes FC is a beacon in the world of sport, a club whose principles and values go far beyond the pitch – and that really spoke to us. At our company we focus on building communities and supporting those whose vision is strong enough to make changes in both fashion and sport. We didn’t see this purely as a marketing move, but as a chance to help the team tell their own story, back them in what they’re doing and create new opportunities. This way a much wider audience can appreciate their outstanding work."
Lewes FC is fully owned by its supporters. Back in 2010 the club was on the verge of bankruptcy, but today the women’s side is strong enough to beat teams like Liverpool. Right now it’s one of the few semi-professional clubs in the world that pays both its women’s and men’s squads.
This season the men’s team finished 7th in the Isthmian League Premier Division, while the women’s side placed 8th in the FA Women’s Championship. Recently both parties announced an extension of their partnership until summer 2023.
Charlie Dobres, Director at Lewes FC: "Lyle & Scott is a unique brand with a strong focus on community-driven initiatives. We’re excited for what’s ahead. The benefits of this investment will be felt across the women’s and men’s squads and the whole club."
Maggie Murphy, General Manager of Lewes FC Women: "In recent years women’s sport has faced so many challenges, but this partnership with Lyle & Scott shows there’s hope for a better future in the women’s game. These investments allow us to grow, train like professionals, strengthen the squad and share our unique story with the world."
Interestingly, exactly 10 years ago the brand launched its very first womenswear collection.
