Original Penguin has been around since 1955 in New York, launched by Munsingwear, the brand that introduced the golf shirt to the US and is considered its originator.

The story of the brand goes back to salesman Abbot Pederson. On a business trip for Munsingwear, just before flying home, he went looking for a bar in Manhattan to grab a few whiskeys. Instead, he stumbled into a shop and bought a stuffed penguin, naming him Pete. On the flight back, Pete’s head accidentally came off. A stewardess wrapped the salesman’s tie around the penguin’s neck and joked that such a stylish bird deserved to be remembered. That moment sparked the idea for the brand’s now-iconic logo.

Since then, Pete the Penguin has become the legendary symbol on Original Penguin clothing, accessories and more. The brand perfectly blends classic American sportswear heritage with a modern twist, making it timeless yet fresh.
